Introducing: Daniel(s)
Bands
Last night at the Eclipse I had the pleasure of seeing one of Tulsa’s newest musical acts. I don’t want to call it a band, because Daniel(s) is more of an experience. A one man show, Daniel sets up with a bass, a projector, and a computer. These three things, in any other context, would seem to have no relation. In fact, they are the tools Daniel uses to completely redefine any expectations you had of live music.
Projected on the screen behind him are videos synced up to each song. A scene from the 80’s cult classic Tron was reworked and remastered to make perfect sense with the sci-fi video game rock playing as its soundtrack. Daniel stands cooly in the foreground, jamming on his bass, as if he hasn’t spent hours creating the electronic compositions matched perfectly to the frantic video art behind him.
Another reworked movie scene from Dead Alive is not for the weak of stomach. Perpetual replays of bloody stumps and entrails up the shock value more than I bargained for. But, Daniel definitely sets himself apart as an avant garde music and video artist. Many other twinkling tracks fill his set with colorful, neon shapes and cartoons. It is a thoroughly invigorating stimulus overload. There is a sore lack of quality Audio/Visual bands in Tulsa right now, and Daniel(s) fills that void without apology.
