We are proud to announce our upcoming New Music Showcase! The event will be held May 8th at the Eclipse. The door charge is $5, and all proceeds go to Tulsa Girls Art School! We are very excited about this lineup, and partnering with TGAS to help them provide Art classes and Camps to girls who don’t have access to art programs.

The most exciting thing about this event is the lineup, since these four bands are some of the most up and coming, original music in Tulsa right now. Prepare to call yourself ‘in the know’ about Tulsa’s newest artists, and get ready to see them do their thing on the 8th!

Lunar City – Headlining the show, these dark, indie rockers have been on the scene for a little more than a year. After the loss of their drummer last fall, they are completely recovered and better than ever. The haunting vocals of Luke Melton have always reminded me of Jack Skellington, a swelling baritone. Complimenting his haunting tones is Leah Long, a lovely, feminine counterpart. The two together evoke decidedly dark and Gothic images. Backed with drums, guitars, and keyboards this band is a fun departure from your regular indie-dream-pop-boy-girl vocal lineup.

Low Litas – This shoegazey girl group delivers on all levels. In recent months they have really gotten a lot of notoriety due to their multi-layered, heavily affected, moody brand of pop. Mandii Larsen, composer and founder of the band is responsible for vocals, guitars and programming. Liz, drummer for Callupsie, has brought her intensity to the drums, and Erin is on bass. This is really a great group of ladies who will make it their business to rock your face off.

The Parakeet Chiefs – I spoke about these boys in my last post. They will definitely get you tapping your toes and twisting your hips. Their music is a direct reflection of early ’60′s Birth-of-Rock’n'roll music, so think Buddy Holly, the Kinks, The Everly Brothers etc. You will have an unexpected urge to don your saddle-oxfords, spike your milkshake, and do the hippy-hippy-shake.

Ruby Blume – Ruby is a one woman act that can be most closely compared to Regina Spektor. Ruby plays the keys as well as the guitar and the ukulele. Her music is folky, indie, and romantic. The lyrics are touching and poetic. Ruby is a great way to start of this great evening of music!

I want to thank every one of these bands for participating; it was really great and the music was amazing! Instead of regaling you with tales of awesomeness, I’d rather show you. Well, it’s been a little slow around here thanks to the Ice-pocalypse: 2010. It is a widely known fact that the Tulsan does not function well in ice and snow. However, more than 2 days cooped up in the house makes us hungry for action! This coming weekend will cure your cabin fever.

On Saturday February 6th, we at The Tulsa Project are launching this blog with a bang. La Panther Happens, Fiawna Forte, BRONCHO, Ghosts and The Televised will rock the house at The Eclipse. We will melt the snow with the heat from the amps!

Music will start promptly at 9pm, the cover is $5 and all proceeds go to the MDA. Also, local artists such as Chris Mantle, Stephanie Jones and Chandra Hall have donated work, so if you buy a piece, that money goes to MDA as well. Full bar, but only 21+!

We are ushering in a new era of music in Tulsa, where original music and ideas are celebrated. Come help us kick it off!
